Born Sara Schlackman on January 26, 1979, in New York City, New York and made her television series debut in 1990 on the NBC sitcom Grand, portraying the self-confident and well-adjusted daughter of a single mother (Pamela Reed). Her first film appearance was on Rocket Gibraltar (1988) as Jessica Hanson. She appeared in many television shows between 1988 and 2012. In the screen, Rue went from stealing scenes as the angry activist Earth Girl in the teen comedy Can't Hardly Wait (1998) to starring in the dramas A Slipping Down Life and A Map of the World. She was the lead nurse in the 2001 summer blockbuster Pearl Harbor and later that year, she made her feature debut in Gypsy 83, playing a young woman who admired the iconic and eccentric pop-rocker Stevie Nicks. Rue was cast in 2002 as Claude who was a young woman who is a corporate ladder climber and also in the ABC sitcom Less Than Perfect.
